Conflicts can weaken organizations to the point of crisis — but they don’t have to. I help organizations design conflict resolution systems for preventing, managing, resolving and learning from conflict.
How I’ve helped past clients
- Helped organizations identify vulnerable areas for conflict
- Designed, in collaboration with organizations, integrated conflict resolution systems
- Helped organizations build conflict resolution capacity and competency
How it works
Conflict is a part of life and can never be eliminated, even in the strongest organizations. Organizations may experience issues between employees, complaints from clients or customers, or tension amongst a board of directors. Without a good system to manage conflict, it can hurt morale, hinder results and cause good people to leave. Emotionally, financially and legally, it can be very costly. But when managed, conflict can also be positive — it can help identify weak spots, lead to new ideas and support learning.
Most organizations are optimistic that conflicts will never get out of control, so they never plan for conflict. As a result, they end up dealing with individual conflicts only when they have reached the crisis stage or resulted in litigation. I’m often called in once the situation is already toxic. So I encourage organizations to instead plan for conflict with a practical, tailored conflict resolution system.
When I’m brought in for systems design, I take a broad look at what you do, the types of conflicts you have, who they’re between and how you currently handle them. Then I work collaboratively with you to design a system for managing conflict tailored to the needs of your organization. Organizations are left stronger, healthier and better able to prevent, manage, resolve and learn from conflict before it becomes damaging.
I would be happy to work with you to design a conflict management system for your organization. For more information, contact me.
